We’ve finally started filming His Signature Dish. The sea looks bruised, the gulls look judgmental, and the forecast looks like a dare.

The locals are warm, though slightly amused by our optimism. The owner of our B&B said, “If the sea doesn’t take your lights, the gulls will.” Everyone laughed. Except Wal (our producer).

Two old boys in the pub next door kept telling us stories about “the drowned ships cook” who still walks the old harbour at some place down the coast. Jess says it’s just folklore or they know the books, which i doubt somewhat.

Tomorrow: first scenes on the beach. Weather forecast: grim.
